Havana, July 5 (RHC)-- When Cuba is now recovering from the COVID-19 epidemic -- some provinces in Phase One and others in Phase Two -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called for "continuing to work with all rigor, with all demands, without disregarding any of the elements and decisions that have been taken."
Heading the last meeting of this week of the temporary working group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus, together with the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, the Cuban president pointed out that "every time we make a mistake or when some of the indications and protocols that are proposed and in application are not rigorously followed, this always leads to the emergence of a group of cases and local transmission, which implies more follow-up in certain situations."
The president also highlighted the studies that at an international level reveal that the virus is having new strains, which are more infectious. The World Health Organization (WHO) is warning that there could be further spread, and that the situation we are in today and the progress we are making in each of the recovery phases, it is necessary to continue working with discipline, he stressed.
Diaz-Canel referred to a group of aspects that must continue to be taken into account in this stage that the nation is going through, such as strengthening research and self-monitoring; in addition to the philosophy of treating the person who arrives sick at a medical institution as if they had the COVID-19, until it is proven that it can be another illness.
The epidemiological indicators that have been approved for each of the stages must be applied in all provinces and territories, he said. "This cannot be violated and it must be made transparent in each of the information given to the population," the president stressed.
Among several points addressed to the temporary working group and the governors, the President of the Republic spoke of "continuing with the procedure to reinforce the epidemiological control at the border, in a first stage with the collection of PCR samples, because we are going to have more affluence".
He also said to continue strengthening human resources and infrastructure for medical care in the country's hotel plant, particularly in the facilities in the keys, where it is first opened to international tourism.
The Cuban president commented on the implementation of the quarantine period procedure for Cuban travelers and immigrants, starting with Phase Three. That implies, he added, that the hospitals that will remain in the handling of COVID-19 and the centers for suspects, contacts and travelers must be determined, and all must be certified by the Ministry of Public Health.
