Havana, February 10 (RHC)-- The gradual drop in the number of positive cases of the SARS-COV-2 virus in recent days cannot generate a state of confidence in the population.

"The danger has not disappeared," said Dr in Science Raul Guinovart Diaz, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Havana.

The specialist made that statement at this week's meeting of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez with scientists and experts who participate in scientific and technological innovation in the confrontation of COVID-19.

Although the government and local authorities' most recent measures to cut transmission are already yielding results, said Guinovart Díaz, the different models estimate an increase in the number of cases and, therefore, more patients in serious and critical condition and deaths.

However, he added, there will also be an increase in the number of recovered patients. Therefore, stress on hospitals will not increase.

In view of this scenario, it is necessary to continue optimizing the epidemiological work in the communities and comply with the hygienic-sanitary measures for individuals and institutions, said the expert.
