Havana, February 12 (RHC)-- The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, warned that multilateralism is currently suffering a "merciless attack by the right-wing."

In an interview with Prensa Latina news agency, the regional entity representative said: "It is not only in crisis but under attack from many perspectives because during Donald Trump's administration a very clear strategy of dismantling multilateral organizations was developed".

LLorenti also highlighted the role of nations such as Cuba and Venezuela in the midst of the health crisis the world is experiencing, where inequalities and clashes over supremacy and control of vaccines and medicines have revealed the essence of the most ruthless neoliberalism.

"Cuba plays a vital role in the fight against COVID-19 in the world, and I do not use that expression lightly. Cubans not only save lives but also, thanks to the development of science and technology, they already have their vaccine candidates, which they are going to produce for their population and help the neediest countries," he stressed.

Llorenti emphasized that the world is facing common threats such as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, climate change, the financial crisis, the nuclear threat, the impact of technologies, and others, which no State alone can address.

In assessing the arrival of Joe Biden to the White House on January 20, the executive recalled that "the Democratic governments in the United States have not been very friendly either, nor have they shown much interest in multilateralism."

In this sense, he recalled that the blockade maintained by the White House against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua is a violation of International Law and the United Nations Charter, and added: "If the new US administration adheres to the laws and foundations of the UN, it will be a step forward".
