Brussels, March 16 (RHC) Members of the Group of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba of the European Parliament reiterated on Monday their rejection of the U.S. blockade against the island.

In a virtual meeting with deputies from the Caribbean island, the president of the group of the current Legislature of the European Parliament, Javier Moreno, said that they are preparing a letter for US president Joe Biden to demand the end of the six-decade-old siege.

Moreno also expressed solidarity with the Cuban people during the joint forum dedicated to addressing the fight against Covid-19 on the island and science's role, with the five vaccine candidates created.

Regarding the fight against the pandemic, the Spanish MEP highlighted Cuba's experiences in this battle and urged the international community to learn from them.

Also, the Portuguese Sandra Pereira, a member of the European Parliament, expressed her rejection of the blockade, a policy intensified with more than 230 measures by the previous administration in the White House, headed by Donald Trump, which included the placement of Cuba in the unilateral list drawn up by Washington of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The forum also recognized the global solidarity deployed by the island in the face of Covid-19, with medical brigades sent to combat the disease in dozens of countries and territories, including Italy and Andorra.

The vice-president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Ana María Mari Machado, greeted the participants and thanked the work of the European Parliament group accompanying the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union (EU).
