Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz

Havana, March 30 (RHC)--Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero assured that tourism would continue to be the national economy's locomotive to generate income and increase people's wellbeing.

During a meeting with executives and specialists of the sector at the Palace of the Revolution, the head of government acknowledged that in the current context, people want to travel.

"Still, the most successful destinations will be those capable of taking advantage of this time of paralysis to innovate and do things differently," he said.

According to the Presidency's website, Marrero said that Cuba could achieve the required changes. He praised the country as a sun and beach destination with a strong culture and varied nature.

In this regard, the meeting was informed that the crisis caused by the health emergency was used to improve Cuba's tourist infrastructure, with maintenance actions in some 42,000 rooms.

Likewise, Marrero defended the need to change even traditional marketing methods in the sphere, emphasizing the Internet and social networks.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the contribution of the sector's workers in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic for more than a year.

He recalled the more than 8,200 employees of the sector who worked in hospitals and isolation centers, the 62 units of Popular Camping added to the process, and the 25 hotel facilities available for travelers' specialized attention.

Likewise, there is the premise of continuing the facilities' certification with the condition of safer and more hygienic tourism as part of the protocols associated with the Covid-19 confrontation.
