May Day celebrations in Cuba will be virtual

Havana, April 12 (RHC)-- The Trade Union Federation of Cuba  (CTC) and its National Unions issued a call to celebrate International Workers' Day.

 

The Declaration recalls that this year, May Day is preceded by the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. It stressed that its agreements would constitute a compass that will guide the workers' action in the effort to continue implementing the changes envisioned in the updating of the island's socialist economic and social model.

 

According to the Declaration, the May Day commemoration will be held virtually.

 

Workers' collectives and communities will play a leading role, displaying creativity and multiple popular initiatives reflecting the joy, responsibility, and commitment of the trade union movement in the decisive battle to advance the economy, and efficiency, prioritizing food production.

 

The statement noted that Cuban workers are aware of the current complex and challenging scenario the island lives, characterized by the criminal, unjustified and inhumane US blockade

intensified with the implementation of more than 240 new measures, in addition to the effects of a global pandemic.

 

The Declaration adds that this May Day will also be an essential scenario to ratify the testimony of gratitude to the workers of the Health and Science sector for their consecration and contribution to the care of the lives of Cubans and citizens of more than 46 countries in the world, and to those who have worked and continue to do so, voluntarily, in isolation centers, in research and the care of vulnerable sectors of the population.
