Havana, May 14 (RHC)-- The Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) rejected physical and virtual aggression against journalists on the island to discredit them in the eyes of public opinion, the local press reported.

According to a statement published in Granma newspaper, UPEC denounced that 'individuals at the service of the counterrevolution' are trying with violent actions 'to tarnish the prestige, morale, and commitment of Cuban journalists report following the truth and following unwavering ethical principles'.

Under the title "The Cuban press will not be muzzled," the text denounces that 'an anti-Cuban minority in South Florida, and its internal employees, desperate for the verticality with which their purposes are exposed, seeks to silence the revolutionary press, subjecting its professionals to harassment and intimidation.

The document points out that among the assaulted colleagues is the jurist, journalist, and Cuban Television presenter, Humberto López, to whom UPEC ratified its support.

We will not allow either aggression or threats. We will defend the physical and moral integrity of the organization members, in the legitimate exercise of the freedom of the press enshrined in the Constitution, the laws and the institutional spirit of the nation', it adds.

Humberto López maintains a space in the national news where he presents evidence on the financing and incitements to violence and subversion made by groups based in Florida, United States, to destabilize the island's order.

This made him one of the main targets of the so-called 'virtual lynching', which, according to specialists, is part of the soft coup script that is being tried to be applied in Cuba.

'We communication professionals will not back down one millimeter in our mission to make the truth prevail. We count on the support of the vast majority of the people for the dignified and free exercise of journalism', emphasized UPEC.
