Russian Federation Council
Moscow, June 2 (RHC)-- The Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian Parliament, approved a declaration on Wednesday condemning the U.S. blockade on Cuba and called for international solidarity in favor of the island.
According to the website of the Russian Parliament, the text warned that "such unilateral sanctions violate the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, including the principles of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, enshrined in the UN Charter'.
The Russian senators stressed that in current conditions, when the whole world is facing the Covid-19 pandemic, the U.S. restrictions against Cuba 'run counter to the world community's efforts.
It noted that the U.S. policy against the Caribbean nation contradicts the United Nations call for lifting sanctions imposed on other countries amid a pandemic.
It also drew attention to the fact that 28 U.N. General Assembly resolutions on the need to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba have been adopted by the overwhelming majority of U.N. member states.
The Russian legislators urged parliaments of foreign, regional and international states, including the Latin American Parliament and the European Parliament, to 'express their solidarity with the Republic of Cuba and the Cuban people.
