On Twitter, Rodriguez regretted the loss of human lives, material damage, and interruption of essential services due to the atmospheric phenomenon. Press media reported severe damages, close to 40 deaths, and other damages in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The U.S. National Weather Service stated that nearly eight centimeters of rain were recorded in Central Park, New York, in just one hour, which is an all-time record.

At least 150,000 homes were without power and reports indicate that some homes even 'exploded' from flooding.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio called Ida 'a historic weather event' with 'brutal flooding' and 'dangerous conditions on the roads.
