Havana, January 27 (RHC)--There is a willingness in the country's leadership to initiate transformations needed in social communication and particularly in the media, said Rogelio Polanco, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its Ideological Department.
Speaking at the 7th Plenary Session of the National Committee of the Union of Journalists of Cuba held Thursday, Polanco said it is necessary to make changes in the editorial, economic and technological management models.
He also spoke of the need of encouraging the media to have the autonomy to fulfill their social function, for which he asked to take concrete steps and begin to present proposals for the required structural modifications.
The Communist Party official indicated the creation of a joint workgroup with representatives of the organizations that have to do with these transformations and advance in the proposals.
He also recognized the work of Cuban journalists during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep the people informed.
