Hurricane Ian leaves two dead and severe material damage in Cuba

Havana, Sep 29(RHC- agencies) - Two people died and severe damage to agriculture, homes, and roads, left Hurricane Ian after its passage through Cuba on Tuesday.

A large part of Havana and other cities in the country are still without electricity.

Floods and damages in western coastal areas are severe. Numerous localities were isolated on Tuesday, and the effects on agriculture have been described as "serious" in Pinar del Río, including in the tobacco-growing areas, one of the main exportable products of the country. Official loss figures have not yet been released.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited on Tuesday the most affected areas in the west of the country and said that all available resources will be made available to overcome the emergency. The situation there is serious, and the authorities warn that it will take time to overcome the catastrophe since the country's resources are limited.
