Cuban authorities thanked a donation made by the Government of China

Havana, 13 Oct (RHC) Cuban authorities thanked a donation made by the Government of China to support the recovery after the passage of Hurricane Ian.

According to the Cuban ambassador to the Asian nation, Carlos Pereira, it is an important cash donation, which was notified on the day by the vice president of the Chinese International Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Zhao Fengtao.

"Fruitful meeting with the new vice president of the #China CIDCA Agency Zhao Fengtao, who officially notified the granting of an important cash donation from the Chinese Government to #Cuba in support of recovery efforts after the passage of #HurricaneIan through our country," the diplomat wrote on Twitter.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Deborah Rivas, also expressed her country's gratitude for the Chinese help, which will help repair the damage caused by the powerful meteorological phenomenon that affected the western zone (provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana, Artemisa and Mayabeque, and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud).

“We appreciate an important donation from the Chinese Government to #Cuba in support of recovery efforts after passing #HurricaneIan, through its International Cooperation Agency #CIDCA. Thank you!” she pointed out.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Ma Hui, in the same social network highlighted the unbreakable friendship between both countries and the firm disposition of mutual support in the most difficult moments.

This September 27, Hurricane Ian touched Cuban territory, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (category three on the Saffir-Simpson scale, out of a total of five), affecting the country’s western provinces.

Upon receiving the direct impact of the meteor, Pinar del Río was the territory with the most damage, accounting for some 89 thousand 071 homes affected, which represents almost half of the housing fund of the province.
