Russian Senate
Moscow, Nov 16 (RHC) The Federation Council (Senate) of Russia today spoke out on the need to end the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
"We strongly condemn the use of sanctions by the United States against Cuba and consider these actions as a serious systemic violation of the principles and norms of international law formulated in the UN Charter," the document stressed.
It further indicated that the results of the vote on the resolution is a confirmation of almost unanimous rejection by the international community of Washington's unilateral restrictive policy.
"It is a manifestation of a neocolonial policy designed to force a sovereign state to abandon its independence and its own path of development in favor of the undisguised dictate of the White House," the statement said.
According to the senators, the United States has been trying to preserve the unipolar world order since 1991 and impose its rules on other countries.
"Both Cuba and Russia advocate the desire to move forward on the path of building a multipolar world based on a balance of interests, the principles of equality and justice, and mutual respect," the statement said.
Russia and Cuba have a strategic partnership based on friendship and a high level of trust, which allows for the development of mutual cooperation in different spheres.
On November 3, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution urging the United States to put an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation, with 185 votes in favor of the condemnation, two against, and two abstentions. (Source: PL)
