Cuban President visits Grand Mosque of Algiers

Algiers, Nov 18 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited Friday the Grand Mosque of Algiers, an activity with which he began his second day of the official visit to the African country.

"We visited the Great Mosque of Algiers, an impressive place. We were received with the same affection we have felt since we arrived in this sister nation. It was an honor for our delegation to be in that sacred place," the president wrote on his Twitter account.

Diaz-Canel spoke the day before with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the state of economic, trade, financial, and cooperation relations and agreed on the importance of bringing them to the same level of political ties.

Tebboune was informed of the decision to cancel debt services, as well as to offer Cuba a solar energy plant for electricity production; other agreements were related to fuel supply and medicine production.

Regarding the announcements made by the host president, the Caribbean head of state told the media that "these are important areas in which we are going to work together and show mutual benefit. They represent an important support for our country".

He confirmed that both parties identified areas such as health, energy, renewable sources, the medical-pharmaceutical industry, and cultural, educational, and scientific-technological exchange as the most promising for our collaboration.

Algeria is the first destination of the international tour that Díaz-Canel will make after the Covid-19 pandemic, which will conclude on November 27 and includes Russia, Turkey, and China.

The Cuban delegation also includes Deputy Prime Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Alejandro Gil; Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez; the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca; of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O; and of Public Health, José Ángel Portal. (Source: PL)
