Havana, December 9 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel ratified Friday the interest of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to participate in the economic and social development of the island in the short, medium and long term.

During his virtual intervention at the meeting of the Eurasian Supreme Council, held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, the president said that, to date, the areas of possible cooperation identified are: exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons, energy and biopharmaceutical industry.

He also mentioned the iron and steel industry, agriculture, tourism and transportation and ratified Cuba's need to encourage trade in goods and services, especially the export of products, based on the national offer and mutually advantageous collaboration.

Díaz-Canel also pointed out the willingness to consolidate relations with the group, based on the knowledge of its business opportunities, although in the last two years there has been an accelerated pace of integration and greater efficiency of the goods, services and capital markets.

He pointed out that Cuba, in addition to the adverse global environment, vertiginous processes of change and crisis, faces the aggression of the economic, commercial and financial blockade and other unilateral coercive measures, in violation of International Law and the UN Charter.

The Head of State emphatically thanked the support of the member nations of the Union who expressed their vote, last November in the General Assembly, for the cessation of that criminal policy imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

He recalled the recently concluded 38th edition of the Havana International Fair, the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, with the attendance of companies from 62 countries and a significant presence of Russian businessmen, from a pavilion dedicated to the Eurasian territory.

He also invited businessmen and businesswomen from the tourism sector of the EAEU Member States to the International Tourism Fair to be held next May in Havana, Havana's Wonder City, and dedicated to cultural heritage.
