Perceptible earthquake on Isla de la Juventud

Santiago de Cuba, Feb 8 (RHC) A perceptible magnitude 5.5 earth tremor was registered on Wednesday by the stations of the National Seismological Service (SSNC) on Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), in western Cuba.

According to a very recent report by Dr. Enrique Arango, deputy technical director of the National Center for Seismological Research, based in Santiago de Cuba, and head of the National Seismological Service, the epicenter was located in northern Honduras.

The expert pointed out the earthquake was felt in tall buildings in the city of Havana and other nearby areas, more than 600 kilometers from the epicenter.

The daily report, which was published early Wednesday, only showed 10 imperceptible movements below 2.9 of five of the seismic zones into which the National Seismological Service is divided. (Prensa Latina)
