Portugal's Health Minister describes visit to Cuba as productive

Pizarro commented that the presence of Cuban doctors in his country is very important.

Havana, Feb 25 (RHC) Portuguese Health Minister Manuel Francisco Pizarro described his visit to Cuba on Friday as very interesting and productive, where he highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the island's public health ministry.

Pizarro told Prensa Latina that the agreement will allow the development of cooperation in many areas, especially in the exchange of medical services, which he valued as fundamental.

He also highlighted the collaboration in the fields of innovation and scientific research in Biomedicine and valued the possibility of establishing direct relations between the faculties that teach Medicine in the Iberian nation and the Caribbean country.

The day before, the Portuguese minister was received by the president of the Health and Sports Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Cristina Luna, at the legislative headquarters in Havana's Capitol.

The visitor referred to the interest in strengthening ties with that institution and highlighted the tradition of cooperation between both countries.

He commented that the presence of Cuban doctors in Portugal is very positive and they are interested in deepening it, an opportunity that opens up with the signed Memorandum.

For his part, Luna explained to the Portuguese Health Minister the composition of the current legislature of the National Assembly and the projection of how it should look after the new elections on March 26.

He emphasized Cuba’s challenge to try to move forward amid the economic, commercial, and financial blockade by the United States, which is affecting the population and particularly the health sector. (Source: Prensa Latina)
