Havana, Aug 23, (RHC), -- Haiti's second International Book Fair, scheduled for December 11 to 14, will have Cuba as guest of honor, according to the organizers of the event.

"We hope that Haitians know more about the literature and culture of Cuba, and vice versa", said Frank Carly Jean Michel, head of the National Directorate of Books in Haiti.

Jean Michel told Prensa Latina that they are working to make this edition more interesting than the previous one, and thus reach a wider and larger audience.

He said that the choice of Cuba fulfilled the wish to discover the literature of this country and to promote the exchange between two peoples with very unique cultural identities within the Caribbean universe.

With a wide cultural program which will include talks, workshops, book sales and tours, the Fair will include a visit to a square dedicated to the Cuban hero José Martí in Cap Haitian.

Zuleika Román, president of the Cuban Book Institute, defined the event as a cultural adventure that will pay tribute to the efforts of this country to defend the Creole inheritance.

She also highlighted the edition of a children's book in Spanish and Creole, well received in Cuba and Haiti, that could open the way to a bilingual editorial line.

Separated only by the Windward Passage, Cuba and Haiti have a long history of cultural exchanges.
