Ahmed Attaf
Havana, March 17 (RHC) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, sent sincere congratulations this Friday to the Algerian diplomat Ahmed Attaf, appointed as the new foreign minister of the North African nation. In a message on his Twitter profile, the Cuban headline ratified Cuba's will to continue strengthening the historical ties of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation between both peoples and governments.
Attaf has served as Algeria's ambassador to India, Yugoslavia and the United Kingdom, and was also foreign minister from 1996 to 1999.
Cuba was the first nation in the Americas to recognize Algerian independence, in 1962, and established diplomatic relations on October 17 of the same year.
It was in Algeria where the Cuban internationalist medical collaboration began, in May 1963, with 50 health professionals. Cooperation links between the two nations have also been developed in other strategic areas such as the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, higher education and sports. (Source: ACN)
