Havana, August 27 (RHC) -- The documentary "Viaje al país que ya no existe" (A Trip to a Country That No Longer Exists) will help Cubans to update their perception of Vietnam, said Duong Minh, Vietnamese Ambassador to Havana.

In remarks to Prensa Latina news agency, the diplomat highlighted the values of this work directed by actress and filmmaker Isabel Santos and the need for other productions to show the development achieved by Vietnam.

"The Cuban people know plenty about the Vietnamese resistance, but very little about modern Vietnam, and we would like them to know how a new country rose from the ashes of war," he said.

"We value highly the work of Cuban war correspondents, especially those who accompanied Fidel Castro during his historic visit to the liberated zones in 1973," said Minh, who noted that Fidel Castro was the only foreign head of State who crossed the 17th Parallel, which was a great incentive to the fighters and contributed to the final victory.

That is one of the reasons that explains the Vietnamese people's deeply rooted affection for the Cuban people, also expressed in shared political views and hopes for stronger cultural links.

"Vietnam has a thousand year old tradition in literature, craftsmanship and performing arts that we would like to share with the Cuban people to honor our friendship," said the Vietnamese diplomat.
