President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated on Saturday the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raul Castro, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.

Havana, June 3 (RHC)-- President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated on Saturday the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raul Castro, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.

"Happy birthday, dear Raúl! What an enormous privilege to have you among us at your 92 years, ready with your foot in the stirrup to defend the homeland, the Revolution and socialism with more strength than ever. Let no one doubt it #RaúlRaúlRaúl," the president said on his Twitter account.

Through that social network, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also congratulated the Army General and thanked him for his example in defending the Cuban Revolution and "for always keeping alive the ideas of our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro".

Likewise, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the optimism of the leader of the Revolution, as well as his spirit of resistance and confidence in victory.

On the aforementioned platform, the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, echoed the congratulations and described Raúl Castro as "a reference for all revolutionaries and an example for our people, with an everlasting place in the soul and history of the Homeland".

Raul Castro was born on June 3, 1931 in the town of Biran, Holguin, in the then province of Oriente.

He was a member of the so-called Centennial Generation, assaulted the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba in July 1953, and together with his brother Fidel Castro, historical leader of the Revolution, initiated the struggle that culminated with the triumph of January 1, 1959.

Raúl Castro assumed the leadership of the country between 2006 and 2018, in the midst of a difficult situation during which he forged consensus and promoted structural and conceptual changes for the updating of the Cuban economic and social model.

Under his leadership, the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters imprisoned in the United States took place, as well as the process of talks and negotiations for the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Washington.

In addition, he was the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 2011 to 2021, when Miguel Díaz-Canel, also the current president of the Republic, assumed that responsibility.
