Havana, August 4 (RHC) -- The president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (ANPP-Parliament) Esteban Lazo Hernandez insisted Friday in the western province of Pinar del Rio that the municipality must become the basis of the economic, political and social system, based on territorial autonomy.

In Los Palacios, the only Cuban territory with a municipal state enterprise system, steps are already being taken in favor of self-sufficiency, an experience that can be extended to the rest of the country and that was analyzed in the most recent session of the ANPP.

In that demarcation, competences have been decentralized at different levels, a group of companies is integrated to the Administration Council, and others of local subordination were created, with a view to benefiting some 37,000 locals.

Carlos Manuel de la Cruz, Mayor of Los Palacios, explained that some entities that closed 2022 with losses showed profits in the first semester of this year; likewise, the number of workers indirectly linked to production was reduced.

Under the principle that each territory makes the most of its endogenous resources, based on the correct exploitation of the land and the application of science, technology and innovation, is the way to achieve the much desired food sovereignty.

Hence, the also president of the Council of State emphasized the balance of idle land, the proper expenditure-income ratio and municipal strategies as a vehicle to develop the local food system.
