Díaz-Canel congratulates Cuban poet Nancy Morejón on her birthday

Havana, Aug 7 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Cuban poet and essayist Nancy Morejón, who celebrates her 79 birthday this Monday, passionate about her homeland and recognized in the world of literature.

In his X account, the president wrote: "She smiles and everything lights up. They call them beings of light. Or poets. In her case it is also the root, the mixture, the Cubanness. Congratulations on your birthday, Nancy de Cuba".

To his message, Díaz-Canel attached a photo of the intellectual at the doors of the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, UNEAC.

The poet, born in Havana, won the National Literature Prize in 2001 and is recognized as one of the most relevant voices of current Cuban poetry, and has the prestige of the world literary community.

In his poetic and investigative production stands out the study of the work of the National Poet Nicolás Guillén and the literatures of the Caribbean. Among her better-known works stand out Titles such as Where the Island Sleeps Like Wing (bilingual anthology, 1985), Piedra pulida (1986), Botella al mar (anthology, 1997), Richard trajo su flauta y otros poemas (2000), the latter selected and prologued by Mario Benedetti for the publishing house Visor, of Madrid.

Morejon considers herself a creature of the Cuban Revolution, "because that process led by Fidel Castro opened a wide space for peasants and workers," she recently told Prensa Latina, stating her position when she was removed as honorary president of the Paris Poetry Market (Source: Prensa Latina).
