Ángel Guerra will continue to be a reference for new generations

Havana, September 30 (Web Network)--The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel lamented the death early Friday morning of the prestigious Cuban journalist Ángel Guerra Cabrera, an active member of the Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity.

In his profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the president sent condolences to Guerra Cabrera's family and friends, "an indefatigable defender of Cuba and the Revolution, from the newspaper La Jornada and other important media in Mexico, where he lived".

Díaz-Canel added to his message another one from the Cuban Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, who emphasized that "the intellectual brilliance and coherence with which he lived and defended his ideals will continue to be a reference for the new generations of revolutionaries".

Angel Guerra Cabrera participated in the struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958) and, after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, he held various positions in the National Revolutionary Militias and the Communist Party of Cuba.

He was director of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper (1968-1971), Bohemia magazine (1971-1980) and other Cuban publications.

Guerra Cabrera taught at the University of Havana, at the National Center for Conservation, Restoration and Museology of Cuba and at the Art Faculty of the Casa Lamm Cultural Center in Mexico City.

He has also worked as a journalist in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the United States.

In Mexico, he wrote articles on international issues for the newspaper Excelsior and La Jornada, in which he reflected on various geopolitical issues.

He also served as coordinator of the Forum for Political Reflection 'Mexico and the Present World', jointly organized by Casa Lamm and La Jornada, and was a member of the Mexican chapter of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity.

He was 80 years old at the time of his death.
