Shanghai, November 4 (RHC) -- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero stressed Saturday the cooperation opportunities that exist for businessmen from China and the island in multiple sectors.
The Caribbean head of government participated in a business forum dedicated to strengthening and promoting bilateral economic-commercial ties and investments of the Asian giant in the Antillean nation.
During his remarks, Marrero also thanked China for its support and solidarity, including its historic rejection of the blockade imposed by the United States, as well as the aid offered to face Covid-19 and alleviate the damages caused by accidents and natural disasters.
At the meeting, biotechnology, renewable energy sources, the informatization of society and cybersecurity were ratified as pillars of bilateral cooperation.
In fact, the Prime Minister highlighted the great development in biotechnology with joint ventures showing concrete research which have benefited both peoples over the last 20 years.
"The results in this cooperation have to become a reference of how we want the whole relationship in the different sectors of the economy between Chinese and Cuban companies to be," he emphasized.
Marrero added that the ties between the two nations constitute an example of relations between a small country and a power like the Asian giant, as well as a reference for China to continue expanding its ties with other regions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
"Cuba is proud to be a friendly country of China and coincide in several aspects in the international, political and economic sphere with this country, this reflects the indestructible unity between our parties, governments and peoples," he assured.
Finally, he wished success to entrepreneurs in the upcoming VI China International Import Expo (CIIE 2023), in which he plans to participate this Sunday.
Speaking at the forum, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, Tania Aguiar, commented on the business opportunities shown by the island and highlighted the results of the recently concluded XXX session of the Cuba-China Intergovernmental Commission in this regard.
For his part, the executive vice president of the Shanghai Pudong Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Li Qixing, highlighted the presence of Marrero at the head of the Cuban delegation that will attend the CIIE 2023.
The friendly relations between the two sides have laid a good political foundation for business cooperation between our countries, he said, while highlighting the island's joining the Belt and Road Initiative in 2018.
At the end of the meeting, three agreements were signed to deepen cooperation in biotechnology.
Marrero began here last November 2 an official visit to the Asian giant that includes dialogues with the main authorities of the country, as well as exchanges with businessmen and visits to places of interest in Shanghai, in the province of Zhejiang and then in the capital Beijing. (Source:PL)
