Havana, November 16 (Web Network)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel participates this Thursday in the XIV International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems being held at the Havana Convention Palace.

The Presidency of Cuba in its profile on the social network X informs that the dignitary shares in the Seminar on Crisis and World Economy, with professionals from Mexico, Venezuela, Spain, Argentina, and Cuba, among others.

The source adds that in this meeting, which brings together economists from various regions of the world, they talk about infrastructure and logistics, the international monetary and financial order, the power of money in world hegemony, and unilateral sanctions.

After listening to the experiences of cooperatives from the Dominican Republic and Mexico, as well as from Cuba, Díaz-Canel thanked them for their encouraging results and pointed out that the common denominator is the human vocation and the sense of social responsibility.

He stressed that he attended the event to learn the lessons from visiting friends and Cubans, "to see what we must improve, to make comparisons".

He also expressed his dissatisfaction that, although different economic actors have been promoted, cooperatives, as a more socialist, democratic and participative form, should have more development than what is being achieved at the moment, especially in the agricultural sector.

The head of state said that as a trend, cooperativism should have been more developed also in other sectors of the production of goods and services, so he considered it a challenge for science to assess whether there has been a lack of understanding and some preparation in this regard.

He highlighted the contribution of the cooperative movement in programs such as housing, education, sports, culture, health, humanist vocation, in the formation of values, in training and planning on environmental issues from a social responsibility perspective, as mentioned by the speakers from the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that all this is part of the sustainable development objectives, which in the case of Cuba are articulated with the National Economic and Social Development Plan.

The world meeting, which since the end of the 20th century and for more than a decade hosted in the Cuban capital the most important economists and thinkers of other sciences linked to the issue of globalization and development, was promoted in 1999 by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

After a ten-year pause in its annual editions, the event resumes its pioneering path, promoted by the Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC) and the Association of Economists of Latin America and the Caribbean (AEALC).

The XIV International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems began last 14th and will conclude tomorrow 17th. (Sources: @PresidenciaCuba and Cubadebate)
