Havana, January 18 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel is making a working visit to the central province of Ciego de Ávila on Thursday, as part of his agenda to review priorities for the year 2024 in the territories.
Accompanying the president are Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the CC PCC, and the highest party and government authorities in the province, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, and Alfre Menéndez Pérez, respectively.
The tour began at the agricultural company 'La Cuba', where he was interested in the state of production, mainly of bananas and grains, workers' salaries and immediate projections to increase the supply of foodstuffs.
Ricardo Varona, director of the entity, located in the municipality of Baraguá, explained that it stands out for its social projection in the Pesquería popular council, where it is located, and detailed how much is being done to achieve economic recovery and leave behind the millionaire losses that affected it.
Today, 3500 hectares (ha) of an approximate 12,400 ha are in production, and they have 44 central pivot irrigation machines, which allow them to benefit the entire cultivated area.
At the vermiculture center, the Cuban president learned about the production of worm humus, liquid and solid, and shared with the young soil and fertilizer specialist Leonardy Paz Velázquez, who detailed the production process and how they use the residues of banana crops in the promotion of this variant of ecological fertilizer.
Díaz-Canel was pleased with the response of the company's 1088 workers, including more than 400 women, to the call to produce more food for the people, as well as the state of compliance with the agreements made during the previous visit, including the construction of a children's house for the children of working mothers, which is already in operation.
As a continuation of the tour in the territory of Avila, the dignitary and his entourage arrived during the morning at the central refinery 'Ecuador', to learn about the start of the harvest, which took place on Tuesday.
Directors of the sugar mill and authorities of the province explained the obstacles for the beginning of the manufacturing operations, such as the lack of oils, lubricants and parts, which hinder the rhythm of the foreseen actions.
They pointed out that a short contest is foreseen, which should not exceed the first days of March, with the objective of supplying some 8,340 tons of raw sugar, to guarantee the needs of the basic food basket and domestic consumption.
Later, at the 'Florecitas Martianas' children's circle, in the town of Gaspar, Díaz-Canel exchanged with the group of educators, took an interest in the children's food and the toys made by the workers themselves from recycled materials and with the Papier-mâché technique. At the exit, she exchanged with a group of villagers.
At noon, the First Secretary of the CC-PCC presides over an extraordinary meeting of the Bureau of the Municipal Committee of the Party, which is also attended by directors of entities and agencies of the municipality as well as officials of the government and the provincial party.
The meeting analyzes the role of political organizations in the communities and the growth of the PCC militancy.
As explained by the first secretary of the PCC in Ciego de Avila, based on similar remarks by Morales Ojeda, in other visits to the territory, the provincial Party Bureau readjusted the work system, so that these analyses in the highest party instance in the province are carried out more regularly.
Another of the issues addressed is the political assurance of the implementation of the government's projections for 2024, a matter that will be analyzed in the Council of Ministers, next week, where actions leading to rectify and eliminate distortions will also be presented.
Díaz Canel referred to the four work objectives for 2024, and also referred to the measures to dynamize the Cuban economy, approved by the Parliament, which, "are aimed, in the first place, at correcting distortions, redistributing income and promoting savings", he said.
