Russian Navy ships visit Cuba

Havana, June 12 (RHC) Russian warships will arrive today at the port of Havana for a visit until June 17.

The naval group consists of the frigate Gorshkov, the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the fleet oil tanker Pashin, and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker.

Upon arrival, 21 salutes will be fired from one of the ships, as a greeting to the Cuban nation, which will be reciprocated by an artillery battery from the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress.

During their stay, the Russian sailors will hold courtesy meetings with the head of the Revolutionary War Navy and the Governor of Havana; and will visit places of historical and cultural interest.

According to a note from the Cuban Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the visit corresponds with the historical friendly relations between Cuba and Russia, in addition to complying with the international regulations of which Cuba is a State Party.

Visits by naval units from other countries are a historical practice of the revolutionary government with nations that maintain relations of friendship and cooperation. (Source: PL)
