Matanzas, October 9 (PL-RHC) -- Honey producers in the western Cuban province of Matanzas hope to produce 1250 tons of honey by the end of 2014, having reached nearly 70 percent of planned exports to date.
If the goal is achieved, production would be the highest in the last 25 years in the province, said Lorenzo Falcón, head of the honey business unit, Girón journal reports.
Right now, we have 855 tons of honey, almost 20 thousand kilos of beeswax and about 450 kgs of propolis, all exceeding the numbers reached last season, he said.
Falcón highlighted the breeding of more than 10,500 queen bees, which will have a positive impact on the genetic improvement of the species.
