Havana, December 3 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other senior leaders today congratulated doctors from the region and the country on the occasion of Latin American Medicine Day.

On the social network X, the president conveyed his recognition to health workers whom he described as the pride of the nation for their dedication to the noblest of professions, amid the shortages and difficulties imposed by the United States blockade.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also congratulated doctors from Latin America on X, and highlighted the example of sacrifice, solidarity and internationalism of Cuban professionals.

He recalled that more than 24,000 health workers from this Caribbean nation provide their services in 56 countries.

Latin American Medicine Day celebrates the birth of Cuban scientist Carlos Juan Finlay y Barrés (1833-1915), discoverer of the agent that transmits yellow fever.

In Cuba, a Day of Tribute to Health Workers is held, which begins on November 22 with Pharmacist's Day.    (Source:PL)
