Santa Clara, December 30 (RHC)-- Family, friends, and colleagues of the prominent Cuban journalist, Pedro Martínez Pírez, bid him a final farewell this Sunday at the Santa Clara cemetery, in the central province of Villa Clara.
At the request of the man who until his death was the deputy general director of the international broadcaster Radio Habana Cuba, his ashes were laid to rest in the city where he was born, 278 kilometers east of Havana.
Martínez Pírez left a mark of professionalism in numerous print, radio, and television media, and he was the founder and director of the OCLAE magazine. He also served as a Full Professor at the University of Havana.
The illustrious son of Santa Clara received several recognitions throughout his life: the National Television Journalism Award in 1989; the National Radio Journalism Award in 1991; the José Martí National Journalism Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2005; and the National Radio Award in 2006.
Pedro Martínez Pírez passed away in Havana on November 28th and is considered one of the legends of Cuban Revolutionary journalism.
