Havana, December 4 (RHC) -- An international meeting on Public Policies regarding population aging opened Wednesday in Havana, where the current situation in Latin America will be discussed.
At the event -- which aims to promote the exchange of experiences, knowledge and raise awareness on this subject -- experts from Nicaragua, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay are to present their findings on regional policies to prevent or manage a rapidly aging population.
During the initial session, attendees delved into the concept of care, which is understood as all goods, services and values involved in the assistance to dependent people such as children, the elderly and disabled.
Experts agreed that this issue is directly linked to public policy and social protection. The concept of assistance implies that everyone has the right to care as much being cared, always based on the co-responsibility at different levels, including the family and the state, companies and the community.
