U.S. Political World Reacts Positively to Cuba-U.S. Embassy Deal

Washington, July 2 (RHC) –- Personalities of the U.S. political arena reacted positively to the confirmation of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana and the opening of embassies next July 20th.

The former secretary of state and Democratic presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton, expressed on Twitter that the reopening of embassies in a good step for the peoples of Cuba and the United States.

Vermont Democratic Senator and advocate of the U.S.-Cuba rapprochement, Patrick Leahy, issued a statement congratulating the leaders of both countries, celebrating that finally after 55 years a punitive and failed policy was coming to an end.

Meanwhile, Democratic Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Murphy and the former chief of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Wayne Smith, expressed their satisfaction with the mending of ties.

Members of the Republican Party also congratulated President Barack Obama for favoring relations with Cuba, including Senator for Nevada, Dean Heller, and Representative Bradly Byrne.
