Havana, September 29 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raúl Castro and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama met Tuesday morning at United Nations headquarters in New York, where the two leaders are attending high-level UN meetings.

Tuesday's official bilateral meeting, their second since last April when Raúl and Obama met for the first time in Panama City, was in the framework of new rapprochement between the U.S. and Cuba, begun last December 17th, and which has already led to the re-establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies in both, Washington and Havana.

During the closed-door meeting, Presidents Raúl and Obama reportedly discussed issues related to the ongoing process toward fully normalized U.S.-Cuba relations.

The meeting was attended by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry; National Security Advisor Susan Rice; the U.S. Permanent Representative at the UN Samantha Power; and Deputy National Security Advisor Mark Feierstein.

Cuban representatives at the talks included Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez; National Security Advisor Alejandro Castro Espin and Deputy Advisor Juan Francisco Arias. Also present was Josefina Vidal, General Director for the United States at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, along the Cuba's Ambassador to Washington, José Ramón Cabañas.
