New York, September 30 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raul Castro returned to Havana from New York, where in attended plenary sessions of the UN General Assembly and carried out a tight, five-day agenda of meetings with U.S. and world leaders. Raul arrived at the Jose Marti International Airport Tuesday afternoon.
The Cuban president attended the address of Pope Francis at the UN General Assembly on Friday, September 25th. He also participated in the summit meeting to discuss the 17 goals of sustainable development for 2015-2030.
Other meetings involved several U.S. congressional representatives, including Barbara Lee, a Democrat from California, James McGovern, from Massachusetts and José Serrano, Charles Rangel, Nidia Velázquez and Gregory Meeks, all from New York. And Raul Castro met with the president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Donahue.
On the final day of his visit to the United Nations, the Cuban president met with his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama and discussed issues to advance the normalization of relations between Havana and Washington.
