Havana, October 3 (RHC)-- Visiting Chairperson of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma visited the Havana-based Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), where she met with young medical students from several African countries, who are studying here on scholarships granted by Cuban authorities.
Saturday's visit to ELAM marked the completion of the African leader's packed agenda in Cuba, which included talks with President Raúl Castro, Parliament President Esteban Lazo, and with Acting Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina.
During his meeting Friday with President Raúl, the two world leaders reviewed the state of relations between Cuba and member countries of the African Union. The distinguished visitor praised Cuba's long solidarity with and support for African countries, particularly Cuba's contribution to the fight against the deadly Ebola virus.
Likewise, the chairperson of the African Union Commission and Cuban Acting Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation ties between Cuba and the African bloc of countries in several sectors.
During her stay, the African leader gave a keynote speech at Havana's Raúl Roa García Higher Institute for Foreign Affairs on the African Union Agenda 2063, that amounted to a road map to achieve sustainable development in Africa by the year 2063.
