Havana, January 5 (RHC)-- The president of the Socialist and Democratic group at the European Parliament, Giovanni Saverio, is on a working visit in Cuba where he is meeting with local authorities.

Saverio met with the Vice President of the Cuban Parliament Ana Maria Mari and Machado and Havana Historian Eusebio Leal.  He also toured restoration works at an Old Havana building, funded with the support of the European Union.

The parliamentarian will meet with the head of the Communist Party's International Relations Department, Jose Ramon Balaquer, and visit the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana.

Other activities on Saverio's agenda include talks with Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca and members of civil society organizations. He will also give a press conference at the Havana-based European Union headquarters at the end of this visit to the island.
