Geneva, June 20 (RHC)-- Cuba called at the United Nations on member countries to adopt coordinated, more effective strategies toward eliminating all forms and manifestations of violence against women and girls.
Addressing an interactive dialogue on the issue at the UN Human Rights Council, Claudia Pérez, a member of the Cuban permanent mission before Geneva-based UN agencies, termed as unacceptable the fact that in today's world, women and girls represent more than 75 percent of the total of refugees and forcibly displaced persons and over fifty percent of the poor.
The Cuban diplomat denounced also that more than 300 thousand women die every year in the developing world of preventable child-birth complications.
