Cuba reiterated that there are no people diagnosed with the new coronavirus, which already affects 66 countries. Health authorities are further increasing actions to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and control in airports, ports, and marinas.
Authorities from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) explained that the island is strengthening conditions and capacities at the three levels of care of its health system for any case that may arise.
Dr. Francisco Duran, National Director of Epidemiology at MINSAP, stressed the need for the population to know about the hard work that all the specialized personnel is conducting at the points of entry and exit of the country, to strictly comply with regulations of international health control of surveillance and monitoring of arrivals.
In this regard, he said that the monitoring of passengers with symptoms of acute respiratory disease has increased. People identified are required to know and follow the control measures for 14 days after their arrival.
In case of any sign, they should report to a care center within the first 72 hours.
Durán insisted that it is essential to keep the population informed about preventive and protective measures. Their cooperation is paramount to face any case of contagion.
He stressed that Cuba has the reagent to carry out the corresponding tests on those who, due to their symptoms and exposure to risk factors, are considered to be under suspicion of infection, as well as the necessary medicines to combat it.
Compliance with health and hygiene measures, seeking early medical attention in the presence of symptoms, proper diagnosis and case management are actions to prevent the entry and transmission of Covid-19, said the specialist.
